The Department of Agriculture, Food, Environment and Animal Science Science at University of Udine (UNIUD, Di4A) is organized in 12 Divisions which include different ERC sectors (LS1, LS2, LS9, SH1, SH3, PE4, PE5, PE10) and different academic disciplines Area such as CUN 03, 04, 05 e 07. A consolidate multidisciplinary approach among the scientists that operate in the Department have allowed to develop different research collaboration with national and international University, Research Centers and different Enterprises. The Aquaculture and Wildlife Division of the department is equipped with a pilot-scale feed mill, dedicated laboratory and experimental facilities registered at the local healthcare office (registration number n. IT068UD047) that allowed to maintain aquatic organisms.
Supporting facilities at site
For the analytical experimental work there are well-equipped laboratories at the University for chemical, biochemical and biomolecular determinations. The laboratory research equipment comprise:  Proximate and fiber analysis, Calorimetric bomb, LC-GC, GCxGC, Mass Spectrometry and ultra High Performance LC coupled to a MS detector); NIR.  Thermal Cycler; Real Time PCR-CFX96; NanoDropOne; clinical automatic analyzer COBAS, Electrophoresis and Blotting equipment; Spectrophotometers; Tissue Lyser, freezer; -80°C refrigerator; ELISA reader; optical, stereo and inverted microscope; digital system for histological pictures; autoclave; incubators for cell culture; biological cabinets; refrigerated centrifuge and microcentrifuge; tissue processor and microtome for histology are also available.
Special equipment at the facility
The facility include a quarantine section (for freshwater and marine fish species), indoor RAS sea-water systems with temperature controller; outdoor flow-through systems particularly suited for feeding trials under nearly optimal rearing conditions for cold and/or warm water fish species. Two marine RAS systems is present in the aquaculture station: one is equipped/connected with 24 tanks (300 L capacity each) and the other one with 30 tanks (1000L each). The flow through culture systems includes 15 tanks (1000L each). The station is also equipped with 18 special metabolic vessels designed for digestibility measurement of fish feeds (Guelph model).
